Unilever is threatening the British National Party with legal action over the appearance of Marmite in an online political broadcast.
"We are currently initiating injunction proceedings against the BNP to remove the jar of marmite from their online broadcast and prevent them from using it in the future," said a Unilever spokesman today.
The manufacturer stressed it had no allegiance to any political party.
The BNP said it used the love-it-or-hate-it product in what was intended to be a spoof. The party has removed the clip from its own website but the broadcast is reportedly still available on YouTube.
