Knorr has scored a major retail listing with Boots for its Zero Salt stock cubes, marking the first time a Unilever food brand has been sold in the retailer.
Three stocks – vegetable, chicken and beef – have hit the retailer’s shelves. They are gluten-free, lactose-free, contain no allergens and have all green traffic lights in compliance with the government labelling system (rsp: £1.49/8x9g).
They will be ranged in Boots’ parenting aisle, “making the range even more accessible to families”, said Knorr.
Since launching Zero Salt in February, the Unilever-owned brand has secured listings with Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons for the range.
“We believe in making healthier choices more accessible for all, an ambition shared by Boots,” said Unilever UK&I foods marketing director Fikerte Woldegiorgis.
“Stocking Knorr Zero Salt on the parenting aisle will mean shoppers can get everything they need for the family in one place.”
The listing will put Knorr at loggerheads with challenger brand Piccolo, whose no added salt or sugar powdered stocks, which are specifically designed for children, have been sold in Boots since last year.
“There was just nothing like this on the market for babies and toddlers,” Piccolo founder Cat Gazzoli previously told The Grocer. “If you use a regular adult stock cube to make food for a baby, you’re basically giving them much more salt than they should have that day.”
