West-Mercia-drink-drive-campaign

Unitas is supporting a campaign raising awareness about drinking and driving, created by premium water brand Wenlock Spring.

The campaign, called Only One for the Road, aims to discourage drivers from taking the wheel after even one drink.

Shropshire-based Wenlock Spring is running the campaign for the second year in a row, with support from West Mercia Police and hospitality brands including local brewery Frederic Robinsons.

Venues across the country will be displaying beer mats, posters, and cards to remind customers “to make responsible choices behind the wheel” this Christmas.

“We believe the campaign carries a very important message, which should be shared far and wide, and will help make the roads safer for everyone during the festive season,” said Unitas Wholesale trading controller Lee Wharton.

“It’s incredibly important that people are able to enjoy themselves and celebrate Christmas with their loved ones, whether they’re driving to venues or not.

“Everyone has their own part to play in encouraging people to think about the consequences of getting behind the wheel under the influence. It’s simply not worth the risk.”

Marc Milward, area manager from Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service, who is backing the campaign at local level, said: “Road traffic collisions are one of the most common types of incidents we attend and often lead to some of the worst injuries.

“In the year 2022-2023 there were 14 fatal collisions in Shropshire. Even one is too many and we hope that by listening to this valuable safety advice we can reduce the number of RTCs and serious injuries on the roads.”
