Brook Street Foodservice has joined Confex from Unitas just weeks after the two buying groups’ acrimonious split.
Confex’s 20-year affiliation with Unitas ended on 30 June.
The Grocer revealed at the time this was due to Confex mounting a recruitment drive which directly targeted Unitas members, with one Unitas member describing the smaller buying group as “acting dishonourably”.
Brook Street Foodservice, which turned over £11.8m in the year to June according to accounts filed at Companies House, is based in Suffolk and has a range of commercial and public sector customers.
“We are so pleased to welcome Brook Street Foodservice and Mayfair Wines to become part of the Confex growth story,” said Confex MD Tom Gittins. “These two very progressive wholesalers are completely in tune with our aims and we look forward to working with these businesses to develop and grow. Brook Street have agreed to join our own brand committee and I am sure they will provide invaluable advice in the development of our Core own brand, which we see as driving substantial growth in 2021.”
Brook Street MD Mark Thomas added: “I feel inspired by the plans that Tom and his team have put in place and look forward to being part of the future growth of Confex. I would encourage other progressive wholesalers to check out the Confex offering, as with the addition of the Core own brand range they have all the building blocks in place for their members to thrive post-Covid.”
Brook Street is currently in negotiations with Unitas over its exit date.
Confex has also signed up non-Unitas member Mayfair Export, a London-based grocery wholesaler.
