Unite has called off its dispute over the delivery of fuel to Morrisons petrol stations in London, the South East and East Anglia.

The 55 Morrisons stations no longer face the prospect of fuel shortages following successful talks between Unite and DHL, whose drivers make deliveries of petrol and diesel.

The dispute arose becuase one driver alleged his wages had been docked over seven months to the tune of £5,200 after being involved in an accident.

The union branded the incident “grossly unfair” and said it would ballot its 19 member drivers employed by DHL Supply Chain in West Thurrock over industrial action.

Unite estimated stations would only have one day’s stock, so would run dry very quickly if the dispute lasted more than a few days.

But the union announced today that talks with DHL management had proven successful. The terms of the settlement remain confidential.

“Unite is pleased to confirm that this matter has been resolved satisfactorily,” the union said in a joint statement with DHL.
