Startup Utopian Brewing is seeking funding for a sustainable lager range.
It plans to build a 3,500-litre brewhouse with an initial production capacity of 8,000 hectolitres, with an eye to creating beer from ingredients grown on a farm in Devon. There had been “much less innovation and far fewer entrants” in lager compared with the “heavy hopped IPA segment”, said the brand in its pitch to investors.
It was also working “to ensure the design incorporates power from sources including anaerobic digestion, solar and potentially wind”.
The business plans to be fully operational by Q4 2018, and said by the third year of operation revenues could hit over £2.9m.
