United Wholesale Scotland is trialling an online grocery delivery service through its Day-Today symbol group.
The Glasgow-based wholesaler has partnered with third party online platform OrderVago for the trial. Five Day-Today stores will provide online grocery delivery over the summer via the OrderVago app.
The initiative could be rolled out across the 300-strong symbol group.
Shoppers will be able to order fresh and ambient groceries for either free home delivery or to be collected from participating Day-Today stores.
The OrderVago website says it currently partners with 1,000 retailers, restaurants, takeaways and brands, offering more than 35,000 products.
UWS this week confirmed a major shake-up of its senior management team this week, with MD Asim Sarwar becoming executive chairman and operations director Chris Gallacher made MD.
Gallacher described the online push as a consumer and retail engagement trial, and an opportunity to gather data on what customers are buying online.
The move comes as a growing number of convenience retailers are working with third party delivery specialists to offer a local online grocery service.
Last month The Grocer revealed upmarket Spar retailer Eat 17 was working with grocery startup Grocemania to provide a one-hour delivery service from its Walthamstow branch. Grocemania also works with a number of other convenience retailers in the capital.
