Val Gooding is to step down as a non-executive director of Sainsbury's at the retailer's agm in July.
Gooding said she was stepping down because she now had "increased time commitments" after being appointed chairman of Premier Farnell.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my four-and-a-half years on Sainsbury's board and it is with some sadness that I have decided to step down," she said.
"It has been a pleasure to have been part of one of the UK's most successful retail turnarounds and I leave knowing that Sainsbury's is well positioned for further success in the future."
Added Sainsbury's chairman David Tyler: "I would like to thank Val for the tremendous contribution she has made as a non-executive director since January 2007. Her breadth of experience has been invaluable to the board and I wish her every success as chairman of Premier Farnell."
