Online vegan food specialist Allplants has launched a trio of plant-based puddings, called ‘Treats’.
The brand launched the range to its subscribers last week as a limited-edition run, which it billed as a category first. It has since said it will make the products part of its core product range after “thousands of requests” from shoppers.
The puds are: Sticky Banoffee Pudding (85g) with toasted pecans and salted date caramel, Golden Apple Crumble (100g) with juicy blackberries and a nutty oat topping, and Chocolate Fudge Fondant (92g) with molten peanut caramel and roasted peanuts.
Designed to be heated up from frozen, each dessert contains under 250 calories, is free from refined sugar and packaged in a reusable heat-proof glass ramekin. They would be rolled out permanently before the end of the year, said Allplants (rsp: £9/three-pack).
“For Allplants, a dessert offering was the biggest customer request over the past 18 months and we’re over the moon that they’ve gone down a treat,” the brand’s co-founder Alex Petrides told The Grocer.
“This is just the beginning of Allplants’ product innovation. Our customers want more categories, better than anything on the market, and we’re ready to deliver.”
Last autumn, the meat-free direct-to-consumer business secured £7.5m in a Series A funding round led by venture capital group Octopus Ventures.
The investment is being ploughed into expanding the capacity of its production kitchen – designed to work off renewable and waste-created energy – as well as boost NPD, recruitment and marketing.
Since launching the company, Allplants said it had delivered more than one million meals including barbecue-roasted jackfruit to customers.
