Vegan burger restaurant The Vurger Co has secured a multimillion-pound investment to open more sites and expand its range products in the retail sector.
The two-year-old chain, which currently trades from two restaurants in London, raised £1.4m in its latest round of fundraising led by vegan investors Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni and Miray Zaki of Dismatrix Group.
Back in 2017, The Vurger Co became the fastest restaurant to achieve its crowdfunding target on Crowdcube, raising £300k in three days.
It will now use the latest funding to kick-start its national expansion with two more sites opening in the first quarter of 2020, including one in Brighton launching in March.
Further money will go towards expanding The Vurger Co’s retail range, with its first products due to launch in April, co-founder Rachel Hugh told The Grocer.
“We see the retail side of our business growing rapidly based on how well the pre-launch went last year,” she said.
Back in June 2019, The Vurger Co launched a range of plant-based eat-at-home burgers in Planet Organic.
