The Vegetarian Society has launched Say Cheese, a campaign to stop restaurants from 'ruining' veggie dishes with Parmesan.
Many restaurants were losing out on business from vegetarian customers because of the 'never-ending trend' for using Parmesan to garnish dishes, said the society.
Parmigiano-Reggiano is protected under the EU's PDO scheme, which specifies it has to be made with calf rennet. The VS has created a card outlining the goals of its campaign and is encouraging members to leave them in restaurants.
