The blue tortilla chips have rolled into Co-op stores

Viral snacking brand Takis has brought its blue rolled tortilla chips to the UK to tap shoppers’ “continued demand for spicy snacks”.

The NPD, called Blue Heat, is Takis’ second top-selling variant in the US [Barcel Internal Sales Data, 2024]. It contains the colouring Brilliant Blue FCF, also known as E133.

The brightly coloured snacks are claimed to deliver “an explosive combination of chilli and lime flavours”.

They join Takis’ existing UK lineup, which includes Fuego, Volcano and Dragon Sweet Chilli.

Blue Heat has already launched into Co-op and will roll into Morrisons Daily stores from 2 April (rsp: £2/100g). A larger 180g format will launch exclusively into Aldi on 6 March (rsp: £2.99).

“There is no denying that UK consumers love a bit of spice,” said Takis marketing manager Becky Allan.

Gen Z shoppers were “leading the way with this and becoming more adventurous in their snack options”, said Allan.

“Takis Blue Heat has already seen incredible success in international markets, garnering a huge cult following.

“With its unmatched intensity across heat, flavour and visual appeal, this new launch is set to resonate strongly with UK consumers and drive further growth within the category.”

Takis secured its first permanent UK grocery listings with Co-op last February, after its US portfolio went viral on TikTok.

Doritos is also hoping to capitalise on shoppers’ growing appetite for spicy snacks. It launched its Takis-lookalike spinoff Dinamita into the convenience channel this month.
