Scottish food manufacturer VMG Foods is set to more than double its turnover after securing listings for its new kids’ pizza snack.

Glasgow-based VMG Foods - which has just rolled out its Pizza Stix ‘pizza fingers’ to Asda and Nisa - said Morrisons and Spar were looking to introduce own-label versions of the product.

The company said it expected the product to increase its annual turnover from about £2.5m to £6m, and its workforce from 40 to 65.

Children liked the Pizza Stix products, which have a cheese and tomato topping and come in eight-slice packs, because they were made with a soft dough and did not have a hard crust, said VMG Foods MD Cameron Brown.

“We are excited by the future prospects for this range,” he added. “We have already invested in new slicing equipment and are looking to increase our capacity next year by upgrading to a more automated production line.”

VMG also supplies products including speciality breads, mini bagels, and Halal pizzas, and has just launched ‘Micro Pizzoni’ pizza products out to Nisa stores under the Mr Moretti brand.
