Waitrose has further extended its global reach with two new export deals to Mauritius and Dominica in the Caribbean.

The retailer will supply the Save a Lot store in Dominica with more than 140 products. English favourites such as baked beans, rich tea biscuits and English mustard will be among the products exported to the country.

Mauritius Food Lovers Market group will make Waitrose products such as apple sauce and muesli available at three of its largest shops.

The two latest deals take the number of countries outside the UK where Waitrose has a presence to 58 across five continents.

It first started exporting nearly 20 years ago. Other countries that take its products include Hong Kong, New Zealand, Bermuda, Ghana, South Korea, the Philippines, Gibraltar and Trinidad.

“We’ve continued to expand our global presence and appeal over the past year,” said Waitrose business to business director David Morton.

“We always tailor our ranges to suit local tastes but find the bestsellers tend to be food and drink associated with Britain, such as tea, biscuits and jam.”

Waitrose has also added branded goods smaller speciality brands to its offer. Most of these were smaller British suppliers that Waitrose had championed and which were not otherwise available outside the UK, Morton explained.

These included brands such as Cornish Sea Salt and Doves Farm Organic, along with smaller premium producers like the Windsor & Eton Brewery and Pooch & Mutt Petfood.

Waitrose struck a deal last year to export own-label lines to South Africa at 110 Food Lover’s Market shops and in Freshstop outlets at Caltex service stations.

Waitrose also has seven shops that operate under licence in the Middle East.
