Waitrose is launching a customer competition to celebrate 25 years of the Duchy brand.
The retailer is inviting customers to submit their ideas for a main course featuring ingredients of the brand, which is exclusive to Waitrose and racked up sales of over £200m for the first time over the past year.
The winner will be invited to a celebratory banquet in September hosted by the brand’s founder the Prince of Wales at Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, where the winning dish will be served.
The Prince of Wales created the Duchy brand in 1995 to champion organic farming and formed a partnership with Waitrose in 2009. A percentage of each sale of Waitrose Duchy Organic products goes to the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation and just over £17m has been raised to date.
“This 25th anniversary highlights the extraordinary vision of the Prince of Wales,” said Waitrose managing director Rob Collins,
“In creating the Duchy brand, he has encouraged more sustainable agriculture and expanded the market for organic food in the UK and around the world. We are honoured to be the custodians of the brand and delighted to have achieved the significant milestone of £200m in annual sales.”
The current range of Waitrose Duchy Organics available in the UK has grown to 300 products including bacon, fresh fruit, vegetables and beer. Products are exported to more than 30 countries worldwide, including Japan, Germany, the US, Australia, Dubai and Taiwan.
