Waitrose has launched a premium bag-in-box wine range.
Four SKUs have already rolled out - Cote Bleu Méditerranée Rosé, Beefsteak Club Malbec, Marlborough Springs Sauvignon Blanc and Stormhoek Chenin-Chardonnay. Two more, Stormhoek Merlot Cabernet and Les Dauphins Côtes du Rhone Villages, will hit shelves on 24 July (rsp: £14.99-£20.99).
The packs had a low carbon footprint and would allow the wine to stay fresh in the fridge for four to six weeks, said Waitrose. They each carry 2.25 litres of wine, apart from Cote Bleu Méditerranée Rosé, which comes in a 1.5-litre pack.
The rosé in particular would “tap into the latest wine trends we’re seeing at Waitrose”, said its wine buyer Victoria Mason.
General rosé sales were up 35% year on year, with sales of Provence rosé up 97% year on year, according to the retailer.
“Cote Bleu is sourced from specially selected vineyards in the sunny Mediterranean and the box design is contemporary and fun,” Mason added.
