Waitrose is to raise the bar in ethical trading by issuing suppliers with a new responsible sourcing manual.
The 80-page Responsible Sourcing Workbook will be sent to more than 700 of the retailer's key own-label suppliers as it attempts to "improve labour standards across the globe".
The manual, available on Waitrose's website, provides practical assistance to production site managers on a range of responsible sourcing issues - from improving worker welfare to minimising the business's impact on the environment.
It also sets out expectations for pay, working hours, child labour, worker rights and animal welfare.
