Waitrose has listed a pre-pack format of blue-veined German cheese Montagnolo Affiné.
The cheese, made by Bavarian dairy Käserei Champignon, and imported by Elite Imports, was previously available only on deli counters. The new 160g prepacks went into Waitrose on 27 May and will retail at £2.20 for four weeks. The rsp after that will be £2.75.
Montagnolo Affiné has an edible grey rind and a pale cream blue-veined interior and is made from pasteurised cow’s milk and cream.
It has received a number of commendations, most notably being crowned the champion at the 2013 World Cheese Awards and taking home first prize at Nantwich International Cheese Awards in 2012.
