Waitrose is to push fresh borage as a cocktail garnish this summer as interest in the herb grows among consumers.
Borage - which has a flavour similar to cucumber - will be promoted as an ideal accompaniment to Sipsmith Summer Cup.
The move follows an initiative earlier this year when the retailer encouraged consumers to use fresh mint with both Bacardi and Havana Club as part of a mojito cocktail promotion. It will promote mint with Pimm’s this summer.
Grower R&G, which supplies Waitrose and Ocado, said it had seen increased demand for specialist herbs such as borage and had dedicated more than 500 sq m to the herb at its Lucas Green Nurseries site.
