Waitrose is planning to open more than 20 stores in the United Arab Emirates by 2010.
It has secured a licensing deal with supermarket retailer Spinneys through which selected stores will operate under the Waitrose fascia.
The first store is expected to open in Dubai in April this year, with a second and third planned for July and October.
“This agreement is set to accelerate export trade for Waitrose and marks a significant milestone in our international ambitions,” said Waitrose commercial director Richard Hodgson.
