Waitrose looks set to roll out John Lewis click and collect to its Welcome Break service station stores.
The Grocer understands that although there is no set timeline in place, Waitrose is considering the launch in the near future.
Waitrose, which currently offers next day John Lewis click and collect at over 300 branches across the UK, has stores in 28 Welcome Break service stations.
John Lewis director of national distribution centre operations Terry Murphy said the introduction of its click and collect operation to Waitrose stores had been a major success.
“When we showed Waitrose the test evidence we said - this is the number of additional customers coming in, this is the number of customers coming in more frequently and this is what they’re doing when they’re in there - they said roll it out in every single branch.”
Recently John Lewis announced a charge for click and collect orders under £30 due to the “massive cost to serve challenge” associated with the complexity of the service. Tesco also upped its click and collect charge by increasing the minimum spend from £25 to £40.
