Walkers Crisps is facing fresh attacks for offering wholesalers volume-related incentives that some claim are damaging.
It is offering free cases of product in proportion to amount sold. But Packets Wholesale, a small Cambridgeshire-based operator, said this made it impossible for it to offer competitive prices to customers.
Director Colin Freeman said sales were taking a massive hit as customers were going elsewhere. “In addition, it forces
companies into below-cost selling to take business away from others.”
Freeman said he was so outraged that he had withheld payment for stock delivered in September/October and is taking no further stock from Walkers.
Walkers, which is chasing him for payment, said it “operates fairly and in compliance with all applicable laws and our customers are free to purchase from whoever they want”.
