Production at Britain's biggest bread supplier Warburtons could be disrupted if workers at the company's factories vote to strike next month.
The Bakers, Food and Allied Workers' Union, which represents about a third of Warburtons' staff, this week issued the manufacturer with a notice to ballot its members on strike action over a pay dispute. The poll will be open between 10-24 October.
Warburtons employs more than 4,200 people in 13 bakeries, which produce more than two million products every day.
In the company's latest report on the market, it says it has a 30.8% value share of the packaged bread market [Nielsen], making it the largest UK bread brand. Warburtons declined to comment as The Grocer went to press.
