A new force in the South African wine industry is emerging from its base in Paarl. West Coast Vineyards has been running for three years but its profile in the UK has been very low. The first major change took place when it enticed internationally respected winemaker Kosie Möller, who left KWV in January, to become a partner in WCV. This month it is all set to launch several wine ranges in the UK from the price-fighting Something Else ­ a Chenin retailing at £3.49 and a Cape Red retailing at £3.69 ­ to the Devon Hill Estate wines at £8.99. WCV has been working with a number of companies bottling and supplying wines from the Cape. A major part of its business has been with Western Wines. It supplies part of its brand leading Kumala range and has also provided the wine for the latest addition to the Pendulum range, Pendulum Pink (rsp £4.99), and for a new quirky white, Not Too Dry Chardonnay, retailing at £3.99. It also handled the wines from Simonsvlei. Managing director Bennie van Rensberg said: "From the outset we moved away from doing business in the old South African way. "We are driven to provide the best service and value for money on all fronts. "Kosie joining us will give our customers confidence concerning third party brands and will also help people believe in our own brands."
