Irish processor QK Meats has cut 90 jobs at its boning operations, blaming the recession's impact on its margins.
The company, which supplies UK supermarkets, wholesalers and independents, said it was reducing the throughput of its boning hall as a result of the high costs of manufacturing in Ireland and the weakness of sterling. The entire Irish industry had suffered from the situation, it added.
Some affected staff had been redeployed in the company, said a spokesman, adding that the cuts would ensure viability for the boning hall operations.
