The Majestic Wine Warehouse web site has been rated as one of the best in the business.
It came out on top in the @chievement 2001 competition run by Barclays Bank and the Sunday Telegraph which looked at how companies were using the internet for their strategic and commercial advantages.
Majestic's e-commerce director Jeremy Palmer said that in the six weeks to June 18 the site accounted for 2% of the company's sales.
"Since we launched it last April, we have taken 12,000 orders worth £1.5m and 50% of those customers had not shopped with us before."
He said this had been helped by links with lifestyle sites such as handbag.com and foodanddrink.co.uk.
The majority of Majestic's customers are men and these sites helped to bring in female shoppers.
