Fruit and veg wholesaler Wellocks is planning a fourfold expansion as part of a move to sell direct to consumers.
The Lancashire-based company, which supplies fresh produce and other foods to local pubs, restaurants and greengrocers, has submitted plans to build a new 31,000 sq ft warehouse at Earby on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border.
The company hopes to move into the new building by 1 December this year.
The company is, meanwhile, launching a new online ordering hub for business customers next month. It plans to add a direct-to-consumer element to the website once the system is up and running and it has moved into its new site.
The company was increasingly being contacted by consumers interested in sourcing their fruit and veg direct after eating at a restaurant supplied by it, said manager Jo Wellock.
