Cheesemaker The Wensleydale Creamery has taken its first steps into yoghurt with a new range of luxury ‘Yorkshire Yoghurts’.
From today (8 June) the range has a regional listing in Asda and independents (rsp: 79p/150g) and will be positioned alongside Greek-style, premium and layered yoghurts.
Wensleydale Creamery MD David Hartley said the new range, which features a fruit layer and comes in strawberry & raspberry, lemon curd, rhubarb & vanilla and toffee apple, was produced to a unique recipe using Yorkshire milk.
“We spotted a clear gap in the market for a luxury Yorkshire yoghurt range with a focus on premium quality and a naturally creamy taste,” he said. “We are following on from the success of our award-winning Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, and more recently butter, which has been well received by consumers in the wider dairy category. Our research clearly illustrated that consumers desire a luxury yoghurt delivering great taste and flavour, without the need to add cream.””
