Grocery prices did not have to rise as a result of supermarkets adopting environmentally friendly procedures, Asda chief executive Andy Bond told The Guardian. Bond said that grocers could save money by going green and use the cash to cut prices, and Asda would not be supporting any campaign to drive prices up. He also said that Asda had started to treat its smaller suppliers better.

The flabby cage-reared fish, which are genetically weak from not having to swim thousands of miles against strong currents, could turn their wild salmon counterparts into "couch potatoes" if they were to spawn, claimed the paper.
