Marks and Spencer has announced a new addition to its poultry range.
After the successful launch of the Oakham Gold chicken, M&S is introducing Oakham White, a slower growing bird, raised free range and in barns.
Labels will carry the name of the farmer on the pack.
Mark Ranson, M&S livestock and animal welfare officer, said the launch was part of the company’s continuing commitment to produce high-quality food under humane conditions. “The Oakham White is produced in barns with straw bales enabling the birds to perch and rest,” he said.
He added that the company has been working with poultry nutrition experts to develop a bespoke feed ration for the chickens, which was non-GM, cereal-based and free from antibiotic growth promoters.
