The sister brand to black sambuca label Opal Nera is set to enter the off-trade this summer.
Opal Bianca, which is a white sambuca, will be available from mid-August at Waitrose stores nationwide.
Bianca has been available in the on-trade since 2002 and it will be the first premium white sambuca to secure a listing with Waitrose.
“We believe that Opal Bianca will attract the interest of Waitrose’s core shoppers as a top quality product,” said Matt Rimmer, UK brand manager for Opal Bianca.
The company said the next step would be to inform potential customers that the sambuca, which has a smooth aniseed taste with a hint of lemon, is a far cry from the throat-burning spirit some might have experienced.
