Roger Whiteside has become chief executive of Thresher Group, replacing David Williams, who is credited with turning the company around during his last three years at the helm.
He will join the off-licence group on April 5. Whiteside was, until recently, joint MD of Ocado, the Waitrose-partnered online grocery business, which he helped to set up in April 2000.
Before that he spent 21 years in food and drink retailing with Marks & Spencer. His last role there was head of food business.
Whiteside said: “I jumped at the chance to join Thresher Group because I can see its potential as a 2,000 strong estate of community-based convenience outlets.
“I have been impressed by
the modernisation of the business and the success of initiatives such as the development of the Origin, Radcliffe’s and Leapingsalmon brands and I am looking forward to getting around stores to see what other fresh ideas can be applied.”
