The UK’s leading wholesalers have teamed up to launch a generic campaign designed to raise the profile of local, independently owned shops to consumers.
Spearheaded by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors and backed by Booker, CostCo, Parfett’s, Bestway, Blakemore, Today’s and Landmark, the campaign will culminate on April 27 - designated as National Independents’ Day.
The central theme will be ‘My Shop Your Shop,’ emphasising that independent retailers are an integral part of the community, said FWD director general Alan Toft.
“During the debates about the Safeway issue in the trade and consumer media, it is blatantly clear that the place of the independent retailer in the social fabric of the UK has been utterly overlooked,” said Toft.
“Although we cannot match superstore PR resources, we have to make a start to remind the public that small stores are important.”
