BP has opened its first standalone Wild Bean Café in the UK, marking the format's first departure from the forecourt.
The store, which sells cold drinks, sandwiches, newspapers and magazines and has a separate seating area, opened this week at Portsmouth's Continental Ferry Port.
BP already operates more than 200 Wild Bean Café pictures in BP petrol stations in England and Scotland but the standalone store - dubbed internally as Wild Bean Café Unleashed - gave BP the opportunity to put Wild Bean Café into new locations that would not previously have been possible, a spokesman said.
"We are looking at a number of other possible sites, and could open anything up to 50 more standalone Wild Bean Cafés before the end of next year," he added.
The store will be operated by food and facilities management company Aramark, which operates all catering for the port. Some 1.9 million people pass through the ferry terminal every year.
