Asda has introduced the Wilja potato as part of a revamped traditional tuber line-up for the autumn.
Wilja potatoes, which are long and oval with a yellow skin and pale yellow finish, are said to boil particularly well and are versatile for cooking. The variety was launched into stores last week in 2kg bags, alongside the relaunch of traditional potato packs featuring Red Duke of York, Arran Victory and Arran Banner.
Red Duke of York are large and oval with a deep red skin and pale yellow finish and have crispy skins when baked or roasted. Arran Victory are oval with purple skin and contrasting white flesh, ideal for chips and roasties.
“Following the success of last year, we will be introducing more varieties to capture the heritage of the traditional garden,” said Asda buying manager Drew Kirk. “These varieties are famous for flavour and great examples of how potatoes used to taste.”
