Wilko has recruited a Post Office executive as its new retail director.
Amanda Jones is currently retail and franchise network director for the Post Office. She has previously held senior leadership positions at a number of retailers including Waitrose and Marks & Spencer.
Her posts have included head of development for Waitrose and chief operating officer for Nisa Retail.
At Wilko, she will replace Chris Ward, who stepped down as retail director in February.
“With a passion for products, stores and customers, alongside a high level of enthusiasm to drive transformational change, I have every confidence that Amanda will bring a fantastic set of skills to lead our retail team as we continue to develop our transformation and omni-channel journey,” said Wilko CEO Jerome Saint-Marc.
Jones, who is set to join Wilko in July, said: “I’m delighted to be joining Wilko at this exciting time in its transformation journey and I very much look forward to leading the retail team.”
Wilko is undertaking a review of its store portfolio aimed at winning better deals from landlords and optimising the estate to cater for changing shopping habits. The privately-owned retailer said in January that 15 of its 414 stores would close this year unless landlords agreed to more favourable terms.
Latest Wilko full-year accounts, for the 12 months ended 30 January 2021, show sales fell 7.3% to £1.4bn as lockdowns impacted high street footfall. Like-for-like sales were down 7.7%.
