The annual Gold Awards highlight the efforts of those supporting GroceryAid

William Reed has won a GroceryAid Gold Award for its support of GroceryAid during 2021.

GroceryAid CEO Steve Barnes thanked WR, the publisher of The Grocer,  for its “broad-based energy, enthusiasm and insight in so many areas over the past year – we are hugely grateful”.

The trade charity hands out its Gold recognitions to companies that have participated in eight activities across all three of its “critical pillars” – awareness, fundraising and volunteering.

Last July, The Grocer’s editor-in-chief, Adam Leyland, took part in a 375km sponsored bike ride to raise money for GroceryAid.

The 2021 awards saw a record number of 305 organisations be officially recognised for their support towards the charity group in the past 12 months.

A total of 90 organisations received a Gold Award, 37 received a Silver Award, and 58 received a Bronze Award. Additionally, 120 organisations were acknowledged as Recognised Supporters after completing at least two activities.

Barnes said: “Without the backing of our trade we would not have been able to help colleagues who found themselves in need of emotional, financial and practical help during tough times. As we move into another challenging year, I am extremely grateful for the continued support.”

The funds that GroceryAid raises go towards initiatives such as its free helpline, new school uniforms for children of grocery colleagues, and financial grants.

“This year we will help well over 20,000 colleagues and that number continues to grow,” the CEO added.
