Wimbledon Brewery has become the latest craft brand to have one of its beers join M&S’ roster of exclusive craft brews.
The London brewery has rolled new 4% abv Wimbledon Ale flavoured with elderflower into the retailer as part of a push by M&S to stock more British beers and ciders (rsp: £2/330ml).
The liquid itself was “based on a golden ale, brewed with Maris Otter malt and oats, along with northern and southern hemisphere hops”, said Wimbledon master brewer Derek Prentice. “In the late hopping stages of the brew we added whole elderflowers. This just adds very subtle elderflower notes to really round out the character of the beer.”
It follows the launch of five craft brews and ciders sourced by distributor Real Ale into M&S last week, made by the likes of Arbor, Oakham Ales, Woodforde’s, Kentish Pip and St Austell.
Earlier this year Wimbledon signed up ex-Paperchase CFO David Bateman to lead the company as managing director.
