British Sugar has awarded Wincanton a three-year transport contract to distribute 275,000 tonnes of packed sugar throughout the UK each year.
Wincanton will operate from the British Sugar manufacturing base in Wissington, near King’s Lynn, and work with the Peterborough head office.
“At British Sugar, we strive to achieve excellence in service, production and distribution,” said British Sugar commercial and supply chain director Matt Lee.
“As the leading supplier of sugar to the UK market with a long and proud tradition, we maintain our position by anticipating and meeting the needs of our customers. When selecting a commercial partner, it is crucial that they can both match these standards and add value.”
Many of the network vehicle fleet and approved contractors will be employed by Wincanton to fulfil the contract.
“This new contract is testament to the effectiveness of our solutions and we are delighted to welcome British Sugar to our growing transport portfolio”, said Wincanton MD Chris Kingshott.
“We are looking forward to developing a long-term relationship with British Sugar through adding value through effective solutions, and delivering excellent customer service.”
