The National Federation of Retail Newsagents has negotiated a deal with EPoS supplier CTN Systems to give members a 5% discount off all new Windows systems.
NFRN members using a non-IBM computerised EPoS system will receive a £1,000 rebate per till when they purchase a touch screen CTN System that uses IBM Surepos Touch Screen and a £750 rebate when they purchase a non-touch screen CTN System using IBM Sureone.

RFID DEADLINE
Wal-Mart has set a deadline of 2005 for tens of thousands of its American suppliers to tag cases and pallets destined for its distribution centres with radio frequency chips.
A spokesman said RFID tags had added efficiencies and improved inventory control in trials, and Asda would take its lead from the US.

WINCANTON DOWN
The acquisition of Trans European at the end of last year helped Wincanton to boost turnover 33% to £998m in the year to March 31.
Operating profits from existing operations were up 4.7% to £31.1m, and there was a £2.2m operating profit from acquired operations, but exceptional items took pre-tax profit down to £26.7m from £30.8m a year ago.

SHEARWAY MERGER
Frozen fruit and vegetables retail and foodservice supplier Ardo Shearway has merged with Ryan Foods, which supplies frozen food to the food manufacturing industry.
The two companies, which are both part of the Ardo Group, have an annual combined turnover in excess of £40m.
