Farmers use milk as a weapon
BERLIN: German dairy farmers are refusing to sell milk to dairies until the price rises to 40c a litre. Last week farmers poured milk down the drain in protest at prices of about 35c a litre, claiming they could not make a profit with the rising cost of fuel and fertiliser. Eighty per cent of the nation's farmers were taking part in the boycott and it was unclear when the supply of milk would be resumed, said the head of the German BDM association of 30,000 dairy farmers, Romuald Schaber. "All we can do is use our milk as a weapon," Schaber is reported to have said. "Milk is might, and we have the milk."
