Wrigley has expanded its Starburst portfolio with the introduction of a Very Berry variant.
Comprising a mix of four flavours – strawberry, raspberry, blueberry and cranberry – the NPD aims to tap the ongoing popularity of berry flavours, said Wrigley. A ‘splash’ of dark purple has been added as a ‘frame’ to the product’s customary yellow pack design.
Expected by Wrigley to drive £4m in retail sales, the new candy variant is rolling out in a trio of formats: single (rsp: 49p/45g), hanging bag (rsp: £1/150g) and sharing pouch (rsp: £1.30/192g). The single and hanging packs are also available as PMPs of 49p and £1 respectively.
The launch follows Wrigley’s Skittles Fruits & Sours variant unveiled last week, and comes as Starburst is down 13.1% (£2.8m) in value sales, with volumes having slumped 14.1% as Brits turn their back on sugar confectionery [Nielsen 52 w/e 8 October 2016].
