Sustainably minded period care challenger Wuka has unveiled Heat Patches for easing menstrual cramp.

The NPD (rsp: £12.99/four patches) was “natural, non-invasive and soothing”, said Wuka. It was “designed to help women and girls stay comfortable, active and unstoppable”.

Each lightweight and discreet patch provided “up to 12 hours of heat relief thanks to the use of activated ingredients and technology, which begins to heat within 30 seconds of opening”.

The patches feature iron powder to improve blood circulation in the applied area, activated charcoal for enhancing oxygen distribution, motherwort to help relax muscles in the uterus, and mugwort extract for its calming effects on the nervous system.

Unlike traditional heat patches, Wuka Heat Patches – available from the brand’s website – adhere to underwear, not skin. This eliminated “the risk of irritation or burns, while staying securely in place”, the brand said.

The launch comes after Wuka research found 65% of respondents experienced heavy periods and 75% were concerned about period pain – but only 20% used pain relief patches or supplements.

“Wuka is about more than periods. It’s about freedom, smashing stigmas surrounding female health and empowering all women to live life to the full,” said brand founder Ruby Raut. “Our Heat Patches provide a much needed, natural solution to support period pain relief, so countless women and girls can live their lives with the least disruption and discomfort as possible.”

Founded in 2017, Wuka was the first UK brand to offer heavy flow reusable underwear to replace the need for pads and tampons. The brand now boasts a wide range of underwear and sportswear to suit different flows.
