Wyke Farms has announced an export partnership with Netherlands-based distributor Westland Cheese in a bid to crack the Dutch and German markets.
The West Country cheesemaker teamed up with Westland after a market prioritisation study identified both countries as key areas for growth. Westland was also said by Wyke to align well with its business principles, with both placing a value on CSR and sustainability.
“Quality produce from Great Britain has being very well received in European markets,” said MD of Wyke Farms Rich Clothier. “The time is right for us to increase our offering into these regions and have chosen the best partner to help us do this.”
Wyke cheese is currently sold in more than 160 countries around the world either directly or indirectly.
The news comes after the firm saw its profits bounce back in the last 2018/19 financial year, with pre-tax profits leaping 46.5% year-on-year to just under £3m.
In a bid to be “more robust” to complications caused by Brexit, the firm said in its recent accounts that it had expanded capacity at its Wincanton packing plant to allow it to stockhold cheese in Europe and effect daily deliveries into most regions.
