Entrepreneurial newcomer Xcarb is launching a range of low-carb foods to tap into the current Atkins diet-fuelled craze in the UK.
The company, set up last year by ex-Sainsbury buyer Dave Marshall, has developed a range of low-carb foods to cater for breakfast, lunch and dinner occasions as well as impulse snacking.
The low-carb line-up is a mixture of sweets and savoury meals, including a Belgian chocolate bar called Arousal (rsp: 89p), a range of 10 chilled one-serving ready meals - which includes salmon in a lemon dill sauce and lambshank in rosemary gravy (rsp: £3.49 each) - chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice creams (rsp: £3.99 for 500ml), Cumberland, Lincoln and pork sausages (rsp: £1.99 for a pack of six)
and microwaveable mash (rsp: £1.99 for 400g).
On the snacking side, there will also be crisps, trifle and tortillas in the portfolio.
Marshall said Xcarb was not a diet offering, rather a range of foods to complement and support a low-carb lifestyle. “Xcarb has the potential to add £100m to the weight-conscious market that is presently untapped within the food industry,” he claimed.
The Xcarb range is currently being introduced to the trade and marketed by food broker Multiple Foods.
