Trendy frozen yoghurt brand Yoomoo is ramping up its expansion plans in a bid to revive frozen yoghurt's UK fortunes and emulate the category's success in the US.

The brand, previously only available in Harrods and Bluewater in Kent, is about to double its number of outlets. It was rolled out to Land Securities' Cardiff St David's shopping centre last week and will soon arrive at the Leeds White Rose shopping centre.

More sites would follow, said Jo Morris, Land Securities' head of commercialisation. "Yoomoo promises to add significant value to our retail assets by attracting families who want healthy food and a new lifestyle destination," she said.

"It is a category set for expansion and a brand that holds significant promise. It is a relatively new concept for the UK, although it has been established in other countries for many years because of its role as a zero-fat alternative to other snacks."

The frozen yoghurt category is worth $700m in the US. Although it has been slow to take off in the UK, it does have a major retail presence with Ben & Jerry's among the leading manufacturers in the category.

Yoomoo director Amanda Gestetner said the brand offered consumers a different proposition to rival brands because it was freshly made prior to sale.

"The opportunity to expand our brand presence with Land Securities will give us significant reach across some excellent retail destinations," she added.
