The UK’s largest county, Yorkshire, has got an official sausage at last. The Yorkshire Sausage rolls out to nine Morrisons stores next week.

Its launch follows a three-month campaign to find an official Yorkshire sausage, led by local butcher David Lishman and backed by the Welcome to Yorkshire tourism agency.

The winning sausage, which garnered 30% of the public vote, is a simple pork sausage made with salt, pepper, mace, ground coriander, nutmeg and parsley. It will be go on sale in nine West Yorkshire Morrisons stores from Monday, and will also be offered to butchers in the county in a bid to boost its profile and local availability.

Lishman said the sausage was a “good all-rounder”, and Welcome to Yorkshire’s Gary Verity said he hoped it would soon appear on menus across Yorkshire and ultimately the UK.
