Scotch whisky distiller Edrington, maker of The Famous Grouse, has chosen operations director Ian Curle to replace Ian Good as chief executive.
Good, who is also chairman of Edrington, will step down from the chief executive role in April 2004 to become executive chairman. In the meantime, the company said, Curle would assume the role of deputy chief executive with immediate effect.
At 41, Curle is the youngest chief executive in Edrington's 150-year history.
Curle joined Edrington from accounting firm Arthur Andersen in 1986 and held several roles before becoming operations director in 1997.
Good has been Edrington's chief executive since 1989.
He said: "I am particularly pleased that my successor has been appointed from within the Edrington group."
Curle added: "It is a great honour to be selected for this appointment. I believe our key brands have considerable scope to grow further and we will continue to invest in countries which have the potential to become important markets."
