Young’s Seafood has expanded its Gastro range with the launch of two new frozen products.
Both Scottish Mussels in Creamy Garlic & White Wine Sauce and Creamy Garlic Topped Cod Fillets will be rolled out in retailers this month.
They are designed to appeal to consumers cutting back on eating out due to the cost of living crisis.
The cod fillets (rsp: £4/375g) will be launched into Tesco this month. The fillets will be topped with a parmesan, mozzarella and chive breadcrumb crust and are served with a fragrant cream and garlic sauce.
Available in Iceland this month, the mussels (rsp: £4/450g) is the first shellfish product in the Gastro range.
The mussels are rope-grown and served in a creamy sauce. They are microwaveable in seven minutes, which the brand has said will help consumers looking to cut back on oven usage due to energy costs.
“As consumers increasingly seek products that can recreate a dine-out experience at home, we have looked to build on our position as the number one brand in premium fish by developing an expanded range that offers even more restaurant-style flavours at affordable prices,” said Paul Craft, chief commercial officer for Young’s owner Sofina Europe.
“The introduction of our new Scottish mussels and cod fillets means we can offer consumers more choices to achieve that restaurant experience at home, at a time when many are having to cut back on the amount they dine out,” he added.
The Young’s Gastro range saw sales rise by 17% over the past year when compared to August 2019, growing to £72.5m [Kantar 52 w/e 7 August 2022].
