Ocado Retail – the joint venture between Marks & Spencer Group and Ocado Group – has begun dispatching orders from its third one-hour delivery service site.
The new Zoom by Ocado site launched in Leyton, East London today, as “part of a wider rollout of Zoom sites across the UK”.
The site – which will create jobs for 130 people across a range of roles including team leaders, drivers and warehouse staff – is the second Zoom location in East London, following the launch of Canning Town, Newham in May this year. The first opened in Acton, West London in 2019.
A fourth Zoom by Ocado site will be opening in Leeds “in the coming months”.
The Leyton warehouse – like other Zoom by Ocado sites – offers customers over 10,000 products for delivery within 60 minutes or a one-hour slot of a customer’s choosing.
The available range is “five times the size of most other immediacy services” Ocado Retail said, comprising food and drink from the M&S range, Ocado’s own-label range, brands and meal deals, “plus hyper-local suppliers”.
“We believe rapid delivery shouldn’t mean compromising on product range, value or quality – our existing customers tell us they love the wide range available,” said George Dean, head of Zoom by Ocado. “We can’t wait to bring all this and more to Leyton now, and Leeds in the coming months.”
New customers in Leyton are being offered 30% off their first order. Delivery fees start from 99p and there is a delivery promise that if an order is late, there is no delivery charge for a customer’s next order.
Among the artisan suppliers stocked by the Leyton site is East London Liquor and Mr Singh’s Crisps, a family-run food business based in nearby Stratford.
“Having our range of small-batch crisps sold on Zoom by Ocado means a lot to us as a family-run, local business,” said Popa Singh, creative director of Mr Singh’s Crisps. “The brand started in my garden shed back in 2008, making chilli sauce and now crisps too – getting our products in the hands of local people is crucial so I’m delighted.”
